The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a stern caution to its supporters, urging them to refrain from seizing or destroying government properties allegedly misappropriated by members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The warning follows reports of incidents involving the unlawful takeover and destruction of state assets by individuals believed to be associated with the NDC.

In a statement issued on December 11, Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, appealed for calm and lawful conduct among party supporters. He emphasized that any suspected cases of theft or mismanagement of government assets should be reported to the appropriate authorities for proper investigation and action.

Gbande directed the message particularly to the party’s youth organizers and regional and constituency executives, urging them to play a pivotal role in curbing these activities.

He stressed the need to respect due process during the transition period, advising that government officials affiliated with the NPP should not be harassed or obstructed in their duties until the transition is complete.

“Npp faithful found to be possessing government assets: report them to the police and ensure he or she provides a basis for the possession or the police should impound same until further investigations.

“Government appointees/NPP officials working or possessing government assets: these individuals should be left untouched until the transition is over because a government is still in place and as such officials should be left to perform their normal duties until a new government takes over irrespective of their party affiliation.

“Entry into government offices and premises without a cause other than looking for jobs: let’s ensure our youths do not invade any functioning government property to disrupt normal business or cause disturbance for any reason until the transition is over. Ensure that no one seizes government assets particularly consumables, fixtures, relief items etc without reporting to the police, which will amount to stealing.”

He also urged party supporters to report post-election recruitment by some of the agencies to constituency chairmen and regional chairmen.

“Post elections recruitment: wherever this is happening kindly report to constituency chairmen and regional chairmen, who will take appropriate measures to report same to the transition team for further directives and action.”
