After Joseph Laumann was fired from his position, Desmond Ofei was formally named the new assistant coach of the Black Stars by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

When Chris Hughton's technical team was disbanded after Ghana's dismal 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign in Ivory Coast, German coach Joseph Laumann, who was born in Morocco, was first hired to help Otto Addo.

Laumann's reign, however, came to an end as the Black Stars were not able to advance to the 2025 AFCON tournament.

The GFA stated in a statement on Tuesday that Ofei will be joining a reorganized technical team under head coach Otto Addo, with Winfried Schäfer, a seasoned German tactician, serving as technical advisor.

Coach Desmond Ofei, who is responsible for Ghana's comeback at the male Under-20 level, has joined as Otto Addo's assistant.

The coach who won a gold medal at the Africa Games and was named the 2024 Coach of the Year by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), who has quickly established himself as an achiever, is anticipated to provide his knowledge and profound analytical skills to the team.

The team's psychologist, Kris Perquy, and principal video analyst, Gregory De Grauwe, were both revealed by the GFA.

With an exceptional resume, Desmond Ofei is a UEFA A (Level 4) Licensed Professional Coach. In addition to his prior positions at Lokeren and Lusitano SAD, he was the coach of Royal Antwerp FC's U-18 and U-21 squads.

With coaching and scouting experience in Europe and Africa, including stints in Belgium, England, Holland, France, Portugal, Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa, Ofei is also the head of high performance at the Technical Directorate.

The Black Satellites, Ghana's U-20 squad, won gold at the 2023 African Games under Ofei's leadership, and they qualified for the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations, which will be held in Ivory Coast from April to May.

He is anticipated to contribute his extensive background and achievements to the senior national squad.
