Alban Sumana Bagbin, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has voiced concerns about what will happen to most members of parliament after they leave.

He claims that because they spend all of their money trying to acquire approval to represent their people in Parliament, they are living in poverty.

While in government, most members of parliament have access to vehicles, but once they leave office, they are unable to even acquire bicycles, Alban Bagbin pointed out. This is a concerning issue that requires attention.

He has been urged to do this and would see to it that measures are taken to improve the lot of former lawmakers.

Now that people are looking back and realizing how impoverished all of the former MPs are, it is important to check if they can even ride a bicycle after leaving Parliament while holding office and all of its perks. At a gathering held at his home for Thanksgiving, he stated, "People have talked to me about it, and we need to do something about it as a nation; that is part of resetting Ghana."

He believes that he was granted a second term as speaker so that he could address the issue of former lawmakers becoming impoverished.
