In a devastating film, Aggrey Memorial Senior High School first-year pupils were made aware of the hard realities of the school's food shortage.
An statement that shocked the first-year students who had gone for what was presumably their first dinner hall meal was made.
"Unfortunately, we don't have enough food," the dining hall prefect said to the Senior High School students who were starting a new chapter in their lives. As previously stated by Sir, there is no food in the store room.
"The (head)master is currently in Accra, fighting for food for our own benefit," he continued, urging his colleagues to make the most of the limited amount of food obtainable.
“We promise you that very soon there will be enough food for us so that we can all enjoy ourselves,” the dining hall prefect said, expressing optimism that his headmaster would be able to arrange food for his students.
The current state of affairs at senior high schools nationwide is not a unique instance. Students' meals lack the necessary elements for healthy growth and development, and they do not eat enough food overall.
Parental support for their children's education has been urged by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Senior High Schools (CHASS).
As per the conference, this will assist in addressing the feeding issues in SHSs.
Food supplies were not getting to the schools, he emphasized, and in certain instances, they were still sending pupils what they had.
"I encourage parents—and I've already given my PTA advice on the subject—to allow their kids to bring snacks like sugar, shito, and gari to go along with whatever the school serves. The food situation has not improved over the last two to three years, and it has gotten worse at this time, therefore I'm urging parents across.
