At Gomoa Otsew on the Apam-Winneba route in the Central Region, a terrible collision involving three cars has left two people thought dead and numerous more injured.

Responders to the Thursday night crash put in a lot of effort to save the lives of those involved.

According to DOII Anthony Kwesi Rhule, the Apam District Fire Service Commander in charge of the rescue effort, firefighters had to spend many hours rescuing a victim who had become stuck in their car. On the way from Apam to Winneba, a Honda Pilot 4x4 registered DE 3440-13 collided head-on with a sprinter minibus registered GW 5064-24, according to preliminary findings. The Honda Pilot spun and collided with a Kia truck (GW 8308-21), which was coming into Winneba in the opposite way and filled with pineapples.

All victims were transported to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba for medical treatment. Preliminary investigations suggest that excessive speeding and improper overtaking by the driver of the Honda Pilot may have been factors contributing to the crash.

The authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the accident, while the community mourns the loss of lives and hopes for the swift recovery of the injured.
