According to the story by ghpage, two mechanics lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Ho, the capital of the Volta Region, while test-driving a vehicle they had just serviced.
The deceased, identified as 29-year-old Richard Kpodo and 35-year-old Emmanuel Gborglah, were employees at a popular local garage known as Precision Auto Works.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon along the Ho-Denu Highway.
According to eyewitnesses, the two mechanics were conducting a routine test after servicing the car when they suddenly lost control of the vehicle.
“They drove past my shop at high speed,” said Stephen Agbeko, a roadside vendor.
“I heard the engine roaring loudly, and within seconds, we heard a loud crash. We ran to the scene and saw the car had smashed into a tree.”
Police reports indicate that the vehicle, a Toyota Hilux, was brought in for brake system repairs earlier in the day.
After completing the work, the mechanics decided to test the brakes, but things went horribly wrong.
“We believe the brakes failed during the test,” said ASP Mary Agyeman, the Volta Regional Police spokesperson.
“Preliminary investigations show the brake system may have malfunctioned, causing the car to veer off the road.”
Eyewitnesses said the vehicle flipped multiple times before coming to a stop against a large tree. Both men were pronounced dead on the spot by paramedics who arrived shortly after the crash.
The tragic news has left family members and colleagues devastated.
“Richard was a careful and experienced mechanic,” said Michael Dzakpasu, the garage owner.
“He always double-checked his work. We can’t believe he’s gone. This is a huge loss for us.”
The families of the deceased have also expressed deep sorrow and called for a thorough investigation.
“My brother left home in the morning, saying he would just test a client’s car and return,” said Angela Kpodo, Richard’s sister.
“Now we are preparing for his funeral. It’s heartbreaking.”
The police have since impounded the vehicle and are working with automotive experts to establish the exact cause of the accident.
Meanwhile, residents of Ho have urged mechanics to exercise extra caution during vehicle testing, especially on busy highways.
The bodies of the two mechanics have been deposited at the Ho Teaching Hospital mortuary for autopsy, while investigations continue.
