Claiming to be NDC officers were Matthew Balon and Nlibe Otanpi.
It has been reported that two individuals with firearms and ammunition have been taken into custody by Ghana Immigration Service officers at the Sangba Inland Checkpoint.
When the suspects, Matthew Balon and Nlibe Otanpi, tried to pass the checkpoint with two German-made Heckler and Koch G3 assault guns disassembled in a box, the officers caught them, according to a video posted by Ed Hub on X (Twitter).
Ammunition of around thirty rounds was included in the box, which the men were carrying on two different motorcycles.
The two's initial goal was to use GHC20 to bribe the officers. At the cops' request that they check the contents of the box, they made an attempt to leave the scene.
Following a furious pursuit by the brave officers, they were soon caught.
As seen on film, Balon Matthew, posing as an NDC area coordinator, provided two distinct accounts of how they obtained the firearms during questioning.
At first, he said they bought the guns from a military member, saying each rifle cost GHS 25,000. Later, he said they got the guns from his uncle in Accra.
The Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Immigration Service have not yet released an official comment regarding the incident that is said to have happened on Saturday, November 30, 2024.
