A harrowing incident occurred this evening when a group of armed robbers launched an attack on unsuspecting travellers in the Sissala East Municipality of the Upper West Region. The attack took place along the route between the villages of Nabugubelle and Dolibizon.
According to eyewitness accounts provided by Humble Lion, one of the unfortunate victims, he was making his way home to Tumu after a day in his village, Dolibizon. As he approached a bridge situated between Dolibizon and Nabugubelle, the atmosphere turned tense when a bright torchlight was flashed at him, signalling him to halt his vehicle. Feeling a surge of panic, he instinctively tried to accelerate and escape the danger, but his efforts were thwarted when one of the assailants brandished a firearm, compelling him to stop.
After bringing his vehicle to a halt, Humble Lion was forcibly taken into a nearby bush, where he found himself among a group of other victims who had been similarly detained by the robbers. The situation was chaotic and frightening, with the perpetrators demanding their belongings under threat of violence. During the ordeal, Humble Lion had his tablet and mobile phone confiscated, along with important documents he was carrying. The robbers also targeted other individuals in the group, seizing a motorbike and an undisclosed sum of money from them as well.
In an emotional recounting of his distress, Humble Lion expressed his despair over the loss of the tablet, emphasizing that it was a gift from a non-governmental organization (NGO) intended to assist him with a crucial project he was working on. He mentioned the profound impact this theft would have on his ability to continue that project. Determined to seek justice, he resolved to file a formal report with the local authorities the following day, hoping to bring the criminals to account for their actions and prevent future attacks on innocent citizens.
