Social media saw the announcement of Alban Sumana Bagbin as the ninth parliament's speaker.

Alban Bagbin was the sole candidate for speaker of the 9th parliament, according to a video that GTV Ghana released.

"I move that Hon. Alban Bagbin do take the chair of this House as the Speaker of the 9th Parliament," said Cassiel Ato Forson, the Majority Leader of Parliament, in his motion to designate him as the speaker. His motion was seconded by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

A unanimous majority in the legislative chamber approved Alban Bagbin's appointment as speaker of the ninth parliament.

The Chief Justice, Gertrude Esaaba Torkornoo, thereafter gave Bagbin the Oath of Office, formally establishing his role as Speaker.

Alban Bagbin pledged to work equitably and urged unity in the parliament in his acceptance address.

The NDC has a substantial majority in parliament, and Speaker Bagbin will continue to lead the new John Mahama administration.

As for Ghana's 9th Parliament, the first deputy speaker is Bernard Ahiafor, the member of parliament for Akatsi South, while the second deputy speaker is Andrew Amoako Asiamah, the member of parliament for Fomena.

For the 9th Parliament, the NDC has kept its current leadership group, which includes Kwame Agbodza, the majority chief whip, his deputy Ahmed Ibrahim, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, and majority leader Ato Forson.
