A driver was seen on tape repeatedly hitting a young woman over a purported debt of GH¢64 in Accra city, and Ghanaians are demanding that he be arrested and prosecuted immediately, according to TV3 GH today.
The unsettling footage, which has since gone viral on social media, shows the man slapping the helpless woman repeatedly in what looks to be a furious fight.
Disturbed online users have voiced their displeasure at the incident, calling it a violent crime that must be tolerated and demands that it be stopped. Numerous people have urged the Ghana Police Service to act quickly to guarantee the man receives justice.
"This is not right! In any circumstance, it is never acceptable for someone to touch another person. He ought to be detained and sued," a vengeful commenter commented.
The amount owed is GH¢64, yet this violent behavior warrants a harsh punishment. "We have to hold him accountable," someone else said.
Social media users are furious about the footage, and many are calling for responsibility by tweeting the hashtag #JusticeForTheLady.
According to one viewer, "Power and abuse are more important than money. She's weak, so this man believes he can attack her. This is got to stop.
Another made the observation that "most women don't even report these kinds of incidents, and they happen more frequently than we think." The law must be effective this time.
Advocates and legal professionals have joined the discussion, advising the victim to seek legal recourse. To address such challenges, renowned feminist activist Angela Dwamena urged for more extensive societal reforms, saying,
"This is about more than one man or woman. It is an indication of the extent to which violence against women has become accepted. We need to start from the beginning.
There is growing pressure on the Ghana Police Service to take immediate action, but they have not yet issued an official comment about the incident.
