GhanaWeb reports that former Lower West Akim MP Gifty Klenam, who was a member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized her removal from office and stated that she is unclear of the reasons for it.
In an interview with Joy Prime, Klenam, a former head of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), stated that increasing exports through efficient product development had always been her top priority.
"I would like clarification," she said, adding that she is unaware of the decision and would like someone to ask President Akufo-Addo why she was removed.
Finding out from President Akufo-Addo the reason behind my dismissal would make me extremely delighted. As of right now, I'm not sure why he did what he did," she admitted.
Instead of just deciding to sell things overseas, Klenam explained, exporting is a complicated process that needs careful planning.
Product development is crucial for creating jobs, she said, adding that meaningful exportation requires the product to be properly prepared before it can be sold outside.
Comparatively speaking, she said that even highly advanced products, such as laptops, are the product of protracted development procedures that create job possibilities.
Klenam recently considered her important contributions to Ghana's export sector after switching her allegiance to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
She outlined her efforts to restore pineapple exports, encourage cashew cultivation, and boost agricultural output.
Making cashew cultivation a top priority throughout her time at GEPA, she distributed thousands of seedlings and put policies in place to increase yields.
In the Volta Region, Klenam also sought to boost yam output and revive the smooth cayenne pineapple type, which had all but disappeared from the market.
Klenam feels her firing was motivated by political considerations despite her efforts, but she has made the decision to go on in a constructive manner.
She responded that she is happy with the NPP and that party members have congratulated her on her recent announcement when asked about her emotions toward the party.
But she did admit to running into threats, which means that she needs to be careful because these kinds of obstacles are a part of the political environment.
