COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has reportedly lost authority as the head of police because he is afraid of losing his job, according to former Deputy Defense Minister Major Derrick Oduro (Retired).
He claims that the IGP is afraid of losing his position after a change of administration, which would leave him without authority.
This was stated by Major Derrick Oduro in an interview with Saddick Adams on the Angel Morning Show on January 13, 2025, who was talking about the recent breakdown of law and order in the nation after isolated incidents of violence in various regions.
He thinks that because of the disarray of laws, the nation is no longer governed, which could have dire repercussions.
Although I am aware that the nation has soldiers and police, they are now claiming that there is no national security. The police felt helpless to stop the pandemonium, and the security forces gave up during the election, particularly in areas and districts like Obuasi. They said that we wouldn't understand if the election wasn't called in favor of the NDC," he clarified.
To support this, Major Derrick Oduro claimed that George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), is currently helpless because of the fear that some members of the ruling administration have created in him, which keeps him from doing his job well.
“They said the IGP should investigate what is happening, but now the IGP is powerless because of the fears that have permeated the country. He is uncertain about his position, and even the Army Commander is in a similar situation because they have been threatened and are concerned about job security,” Major Oduro asserted.
