As Ghana Web reported on Sunday, January 5, 2025, Nana Ayew Afriye, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Effiduase/Asokore, lambasted senior party members, accusing them of forsaking the Ashanti Region, escalating tensions inside the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The region has historically been a major NPP stronghold, and Afriye's remarks reflected rising discontent with the party's leadership and their inability to adequately represent it.

Asokwa MP Patricia Appiagyei was singled out by Afriye in an open statement on a site for NPP MPs, accusing her of putting her own interests ahead of the Ashanti caucus's overall welfare.

"You are a huge betrayal to Ashanti caucus and a very selfish person," Afriye remarked, bemoaning the exclusion of the region's contributions in favor of gaining a deputy leadership position in Parliament.

Afriye bemoaned his dissatisfaction at the Ashanti Region's exclusion from key positions within the NPP, despite their strong support for it.

He questioned the purpose of this representation, claiming that the area has been reduced to a supporting role. "So, what are we worth for being reduced to the position of deputy minority leader?" he questioned.

Furthermore, the MP expressed disapproval of the party's decision-making process, arguing that it has marginalized the Ashanti Region in favor of other areas.
