Outspoken Ghanaian media personality, Captain Smart, has sparked debate after questioning the effectiveness of midnight prayer sessions, particularly those associated with the popular Alpha Hour movement.
Speaking during a recent broadcast, the radio and TV host stated that while he is not against prayer itself, the timing, intensity, and perceived noise surrounding such sessions often do more harm than good.
“I do not oppose prayer,” he clarified, “but the habit of staying awake at midnight and creating noise during prayer will not lead to any meaningful outcomes.”
Captain Smart argued that many Christians participating in these late-night spiritual routines lack a clear understanding of the purpose behind them. He described their actions as "squandering time" and labeled the practice a misplaced spiritual effort.
“Participants are merely making noise. The Alpha Hour routine, in particular, does not yield the results they seek,” he added.
Beyond spiritual concerns, the media personality also touched on the physical and social consequences of such routines. He noted that many of the participants wake up exhausted, deprived of rest, and are unable to function optimally the following day.
“These Alpha Hour devotees pray daily at inconvenient hours when they should be resting their exhausted bodies in preparation for the morning’s responsibilities.”
He emphasized the importance of intentionality and timing in spiritual matters, suggesting that not every prayer session, no matter how fervent, guarantees divine attention.
“There’s a time for everything,” he noted. “Christians, in particular, tend to engage in fervent prayers during set periods, creating a ruckus directed at a God who may not even heed their calls.”
Captain Smart’s remarks have since stirred reactions across social media, with some echoing his sentiments about the need for balance and spiritual understanding, while others have passionately defended Alpha Hour as a powerful source of divine connection and community upliftment.
The conversation continues, highlighting the ongoing tension between spiritual expression and social responsibility in modern Ghanaian society.
