Veteran Ghanaian actress and film expert Dr. Akosua Abdallah has distanced herself from a petition calling for the revocation of two recent appointments to the National Film Authority (NFA).

In a statement to MyJoyOnline.com, Dr. Abdallah clarified that she had no involvement in the petition and was not consulted before her name was included.

The petition, initiated by the Association of Ghanaian Creatives, urges President John Dramani Mahama to rescind the appointments of Kafui Danku as Executive Secretary and James Gardiner as Deputy Executive Secretary of the NFA. Petitioners argued that both lacked the necessary expertise and proposed alternative candidates, including Dr. Akosua Abdallah, Dr. Jim Fara Awindor, George Bosompim, Professor Linus Abraham, Akofa Edjeani Asiedu, and Ms. Nicole Amarteifio.

However, Dr. Abdallah joins Dr. Jim Fara Awindor, George Bosompim, and Professor Linus Abraham in publicly rejecting any association with the petition.

In her official statement, Dr. Abdallah emphasized that she remains focused on promoting collaboration and artistic excellence in the creative sector.

> “I wish to categorically state that I have no knowledge of this petition, nor was I consulted or involved in its initiation, drafting, or circulation,” she stated.

As Head of the Ghana Chapter of the International Theatre Institute (ITI), Dr. Abdallah reaffirmed her neutral stance on governance and appointments in state institutions.

> “At this stage of my career, I am not engaged in public or civil service, making any association of my name with this petition entirely unwarranted,” she added.

She concluded by stating that the inclusion of her name in the petition was done without her consent and does not reflect her views.
