President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, recently held discussions with the Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, Roey Gilad, to explore ways to enhance football cooperation between the two nations.
The meeting, which took place at the Israeli Embassy in Accra on March 19, 2025, focused on strengthening ties through football development programs, technical exchange initiatives, and business partnerships.
Ghana and Israel share a strong football connection, with several Ghanaian players competing in Israeli clubs. Former Israeli national team coach Avram Grant also led the Black Stars from 2015 to 2017, guiding them to the AFCON 2015 final.
Key areas discussed included:
Technical exchange programs for Ghanaian coaches, medical staff, and marketing professionals.
Participation of Ghana’s U-15 national team in a football tournament in Israel.
Partnerships with Israeli businesses to support football infrastructure and grassroots programs.
Coaching exchange initiatives, allowing Ghanaian coaches to train in Israel and Israeli experts to visit Ghana.
Training for local pitch managers to enhance playing conditions in Ghana.
GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating:
"By leveraging Israel’s expertise in sports science and technology, we can create more opportunities for Ghanaian footballers, coaches, and administrators."
Also in attendance were Michael Osekre, Chief of Staff to the GFA President, and Janice Odonkor, Head of Business Development at the GFA.
The GFA remains committed to fostering international partnerships to boost football development in Ghana.
