Gender Violence Court Remands Fisherman for Assaulting Woman with Baby

An Accra-based Gender Violence Court has remanded Nii Baah Afful, a 29-year-old fisherman, into custody for his involvement in an assault case. The suspect is to remain in custody for two weeks and will reappear before the court on April 9, 2025.

Afful was arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command after a viral video showed him physically assaulting a woman carrying an 8-month-old baby. The incident occurred on March 20, 2025, at Korle Gonno, a suburb of Accra, following a domestic dispute.

The victim, Francisca Aryee, 21, and the suspect share two children.

The assault happened after the victim attempted to leave for her mother’s house.

The suspect was tracked and arrested on March 22, 2025, by the Police Intelligence Unit.

The victim has received medical care and counseling.
