The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Agbodza, and the Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD, Dr. Ransford Abbey, have initiated discussions to secure sustainable funding for stalled cocoa roads projects nationwide.
During a high-level meeting held earlier today, both officials emphasized the urgency of completing critical road infrastructure in cocoa-growing regions to enhance productivity and economic growth.
As a key outcome, a joint technical committee has been established, comprising experts from the Ministry of Roads and Highways and COCOBOD. This committee has been tasked with:
Rationalizing the cocoa roads portfolio
Assessing outstanding commitments
Determining COCOBOD’s financial exposure in relation to ongoing projects
The committee is expected to submit a comprehensive report within three weeks, outlining resource allocation strategies and recommendations for completing stalled projects efficiently.
Hon. Kwame Agbodza reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure, stressing its crucial role in the cocoa industry’s growth.
"Improving road access in these regions is crucial for boosting productivity, ensuring smooth transportation of cocoa produce, and ultimately contributing to Ghana’s economic growth," he stated.
The initiative is expected to accelerate the completion of cocoa roads, ensuring better accessibility and supporting the nation’s cocoa industry.
