Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has met with the African Development Bank (AfDB) Country Manager, Eyerusalem Fasika, to discuss funding for crucial road infrastructure projects across Ghana.

The meeting, held yesterday, focused on strengthening collaboration between the government and AfDB to improve Ghana’s road network, facilitate trade, economic growth, and nationwide transportation.

Key projects discussed included:

Eastern Corridor Development Programme (Phases 1 and 2)
Dambai Bridge Project
Abidjan-Lagos Corridor Road Project
Reconstruction of the Techiman-Wa Road
The discussions also covered the Big Push Initiative, the reintroduction of road tolls, and road maintenance strategies to ensure long-term infrastructure sustainability.

Mr. Agbodza emphasized the need for sustainable financing mechanisms, highlighting that reintroducing road tolls would generate revenue for ongoing and future projects.

"The reintroduction of road tolls will be crucial in generating additional revenue for road infrastructure projects," he noted.

In response, AfDB Country Manager Eyerusalem Fasika reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s infrastructure development. She underscored the importance of well-maintained roads in boosting economic growth and enhancing regional trade.

The engagement is expected to pave the way for enhanced financial support and accelerated road development projects, particularly in key economic zones.
