Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering strategic partnerships to advance Ghana’s offshore oil and gas sector.
Speaking on the sidelines of the International Energy Week in the United Kingdom, Mr. Jinapor engaged key stakeholders involved in the development of the 1,560-square-kilometre East Cape Three Point Block, located in the Offshore Tano Basin.
The block is currently operated by Medea Development Ltd and Cola Natural Resources, with potential investment from Strategic Fuel Fund, Safri West Energies, and Jade Energy. These partners are dedicated to accelerating exploration activities, aiming for first oil production between 2028 and 2029.
Stakeholders disclosed that preparatory work for drilling the first exploration well is already underway, with operations expected to begin later this year or early next year.
Assuring investors of Ghana’s stable regulatory framework and favorable business environment, Mr. Jinapor emphasized the need for a balanced and sustainable approach to resource development. He called on stakeholders to collaborate effectively, leveraging innovation and efficiency to maximize the sector’s potential.
The engagement reinforced Ghana’s commitment to expanding its energy sector while maintaining environmental sustainability. With exploration activities progressing, the East Cape Three Point Block is poised to become a crucial part of the country’s long-term energy strategy.
