Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, was seen in full police protective gear as he led a high-level team to Bawku in the Upper East Region following a violent confrontation in the area.
On Thursday, April 10, the IGP, accompanied by senior officers in operations, investigations, and intelligence, arrived in Bawku after a clash between some youth and the Police on Wednesday left one person, Fuseini Iddrisu, dead.
According to a police statement, five others — including a police officer and an immigration officer — sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving medical treatment.
The violence also led to damage of police property, including two service vehicles, a rented accommodation at Binduri, and private homes of some officers.
The IGP’s visit was aimed at gathering firsthand insight into the evolving security situation and reviewing strategic responses on the ground. The police delegation is also working closely with the Ghana Armed Forces to stabilize Bawku and neighboring areas.
The Ghana Police Service has reassured residents of enhanced security measures to safeguard lives and property, and emphasized its commitment to restoring peace.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security forces, stressing that anyone involved in acts of violence will face the full force of the law.
