Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called for the immediate release of controversial broadcaster Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, who was reportedly arrested by operatives of the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Afenyo-Markin condemned the arrest, alleging that it was part of a pattern of political intimidation.

"It started with Abronye. Now it's Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah. The NDC Government must be tolerant! Using State Security to intimidate opponents is not good for our democracy! Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah must be released now!!!" he wrote.

Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah was reportedly picked up on Wednesday evening at Mile 7, Achimota, though the reasons for his arrest remain unclear. His detention has sparked concerns among opposition members and media figures.

The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B), confirmed the arrest in a Facebook post, further fueling public speculation about its motives.

This development follows another high-profile case involving the NIB, which recently summoned NPP’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe (Abronye). He was called for questioning on February 26 over allegations that former President John Mahama withheld GH₵550 million meant for dismissed Jubilee House appointees.

With concerns rising over perceived political intimidation, Afenyo-Markin’s demand has added to the growing pressure on authorities to clarify the circumstances surrounding Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah’s arrest and ensure transparency in security operations.
