MultiChoice Ghana (DSTV) has announced a 15% increase in subscription fees across all packages, set to take effect on April 1, 2025.
This marks the third price hike within a short period, following two adjustments in 2024 that sparked frustration among customers.
Consumer Backlash and Concerns
Consumer rights group CUTS International has criticized the abrupt price adjustment, calling for greater transparency and better communication.
“The brief notification period may not have given subscribers enough time to assess their options or make necessary adjustments. Respecting consumers is crucial in any marketplace, particularly when services are prepaid and billed on a recurring basis,” CUTS International stated in a press release.
They further stressed that clear and timely communication is essential to maintaining customer trust and loyalty.
Growing Resistance to DSTV's Pricing Strategy
DSTV’s pricing approach has also faced opposition in Nigeria, where similar price hikes triggered widespread backlash from subscribers.
While MultiChoice Ghana has yet to provide a detailed explanation for the latest increase, many customers remain frustrated over the repeated adjustments and the impact on affordability.
With growing consumer discontent, stakeholders are urging DSTV to reconsider its approach and engage more transparently with subscribers on future price changes.
