Ghana’s National Security has dismissed claims that its operatives took cash or valuables during a raid on the residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, at Roman Ridge on March 19, 2025.
According to security officials, the operation was based on intelligence suggesting that Dr. Addison was in possession of central bank funds. The search, which uncovered empty money storage boxes, was conducted with a lawful search warrant and in compliance with standard procedures.
As part of their investigative process, operatives also retrieved the hard drive from Dr. Addison’s CCTV system, describing it as a routine procedure. Addressing allegations of theft, a National Security source firmly denied the accusations.
"We did not take any money or jewelry from Dr. Addison’s home. We will, in due course, make public a full list of items retrieved during the search," the source told 3News.com.
The search has triggered heated political debates, with the Minority in Parliament condemning it as part of a broader trend of security actions against former government officials.
This latest raid follows a similar operation at the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta on February 11, 2025. The controversy intensified further on March 19 with the arrest and subsequent release of journalist Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah.
Reacting to the developments, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin urged President John Mahama to put an end to politically motivated security actions.
"President John Dramani Mahama, please leave a legacy. Let it be said that even if there were excesses in the exercise of executive power when you had the opportunity, you changed it for good. Own that legacy in your name. We are tired of the intimidation, the attacks, and the hypocrisy," he stated.
The political tensions surrounding security operations continue to mount, raising concerns over the balance between law enforcement and political impartiality.
