The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo, has attributed the non-functional streetlights on the Tema Motorway and the Accra-Tema Beach Road to ongoing construction activities.
During an assessment tour on March 25, 2025, she noted that, despite overseeing the restoration of 126 streetlights across various parts of the region, these key routes could not be included in the initiative.
Key Highlights:
126 streetlights have been restored on highways, town roads, and community roads across the 29 MMDAs in Greater Accra.
Affected Areas: Tema Motorway and Accra-Tema Beach Road remain without lighting due to ongoing roadworks.
Benefiting Roads: George Walker Bush Highway, ACP to Pokuase, Independence Avenue (Jubilee House), and New Town Junction to Ashaiman road.
The minister reaffirmed her commitment to achieving 70% streetlight functionality within her first 50 days in office.
Ocloo assured the public that once the construction projects are completed, the remaining streetlights will be restored to enhance visibility and security in the capital.
