Renowned business leader and former AngloGold Ashanti CEO, Sir Sam Jonah, has emphasized the crucial role of diversity and inclusivity in driving sustainable business growth.
Speaking at the Gold Coast University Leadership Conversation in Accra on March 22, Sir Jonah highlighted the importance of people-centered strategies beyond financial performance.
"Sustainable growth isn't just about numbers. It’s about people. Employees must feel valued and empowered to innovate," he stated.
He cited AngloGold Ashanti’s investment in training and development, which helped employees achieve world-class standards and take ownership of their roles.
According to him, diverse teams are more effective at solving complex challenges, making inclusivity not just a moral obligation but a business necessity. He urged leaders to actively promote diversity and mentorship, identifying high-potential talent early and investing in their professional growth to ensure continuity.
On corporate social responsibility, Sir Jonah highlighted AngloGold Ashanti’s initiatives to reduce environmental risks in local communities while maintaining financial stability through strategic investments.
He also referenced global firms like Huawei, noting that combining a long-term vision with short-term actions is critical for sustainability.
"Companies that fail to embrace diversity, inclusivity, and strategic leadership often struggle to sustain their businesses," he warned.
His remarks reinforced the need for businesses to adopt forward-thinking strategies to remain competitive and resilient in the evolving global economy.
