Two individuals have reportedly been arrested for looting goods amid the devastating fire that swept through parts of Adum Market in the early hours of Friday, March 21, 2025.
The blaze, which spread rapidly to nearby shops, has caused significant losses for business owners. According to eyewitnesses, the suspects took advantage of the chaos to steal from affected stores before being apprehended by security officers.
National security operatives at the scene confirmed the arrests, stressing that law enforcement is working to maintain order as firefighters battle the inferno.
Firefighting Challenges
Efforts by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have been hindered by:
Congestion and narrow pathways in the market.
Highly flammable materials stored in the affected shops.
Six fire trucks were deployed immediately, yet the fire continues to threaten more businesses.
Government Response
A government minister has been briefed by national security operatives, with officials assuring that investigations will continue into both the fire’s cause and the security situation.
The affected section of Adum Market, known for selling second-hand clothes and housing seamstresses and watch repairers, has left many business owners counting their losses as firefighters strive to contain the blaze.
