Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has commenced a three-week medical leave beginning April 7, 2025, following her doctor’s advice to prioritize her health and recovery.
The development was confirmed by sources at Jubilee House, with the Vice President said to be responding well to treatment after recent health concerns. Initial care was provided at the University of Ghana Medical Centre, before she sought further treatment abroad.
Providing an update during a community engagement in Lagos, Nigeria, on April 6, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa assured Ghanaians that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is in stable condition and will return to her official duties soon.
He expressed appreciation for the outpouring of prayers and support, which he said have played a key role in her recovery.
Ablakwa also addressed circulating rumors about the Vice President’s health, describing them as “vicious and unGhanaian propaganda.” He urged the public to remain focused on her resilience, achievements, and the inspiration she provides—particularly to young girls and women across the country.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is Ghana’s first female Vice President and has been widely recognized for her trailblazing role in governance, education, and advocacy.
