The Accra Institute of Technology (AIT), a premier private university in Ghana, has successfully hosted its highly anticipated 2024 Science, Technology, and Innovation Expo (STI Expo).
The event, held on November 14 at AIT’s Knowledge City Campus in Kokomlemle, Accra, served as a vibrant platform for showcasing groundbreaking projects and fostering collaboration between academia and industry.
Chaired by Professor Benjamin Aggrey Ntim, the Associate Dean of Innovation & Industrial Partnerships, the event drew participants from diverse fields, including faculty members, students, industry leaders, and delegates from schools and tertiary institutions across Ghana. The STI Expo is an annual highlight on AIT’s academic calendar, aimed at bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
“The rapid advancement in technology necessitates a strong focus on practical education to effectively prepare students for real-world challenges,” said Professor Ntim.
He underscored AIT's commitment to blending classroom learning with hands-on experiences, such as industry placements and site visits, to ensure graduates are job-ready.
The Expo featured presentations and exhibitions of final-year projects by students from the Engineering, Information Technology, and Business faculties.
Among the standout innovations showcased were:
• Smart Hybrid Wireless Charging Phone Pad for Wheelchairs
• Retrofitting Akosombo Dam and Feasibility Study of Flood Intervention Measures
• Smart Helmet and Monitoring System for Miners
• High Panic Audio Security Alert Door

• Smartphone-Based Object Detection Using YOLO
• SavorGH: Ghanaian Recipe Recommendation System Using Computer Vision

• Smart Health Diagnostics System for Women’s Health in Peri-Urban and Rural Communities, Nigeria
• Advanced Smart Blind Stick
These projects highlighted the students’ creativity and technical acumen, addressing real-world challenges and underscoring AIT's reputation for excellence in science and technology education.
A major highlight of the Expo was the student pitch competition, which provided participants with a platform to present innovative business ideas and gain insights into the entrepreneurial process.
The event reflected AIT’s broader mission to develop not just graduates, but future innovators and entrepreneurs who will contribute to Ghana’s economic and technological development.
The STI Expo also included interactive exhibitions where attendees could experience the projects firsthand, fostering dialogue between students and industry stakeholders.
AIT’s focus on practical education and innovation has earned it recognition as Ghana’s top private university by the Ghana Tertiary Awards.
The success of the 2024 STI Expo further reinforces the institution’s dedication to nurturing the next generation of problem-solvers and leaders.
