The Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), COP/Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah is in the news after a bust was unveiled at EOCO headquarters in her honour on Friday, October 18th, 2024.
This comes after the welfare department of EOCO, through its own initiatives, made voluntary contributions to erect a bust in her honour to appreciate her work at EOCO.
COP/Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah was not the only person who was honoured that day. Quite a number of EOCO officers, past and present were honoured as well. Mr. Bladela Mortey Akpadzi for instance had a training room named after him. Even the dead received their honour posthumously on that fateful day at EOCO. It was not all about COP/Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah but much more about all others and what they did for EOCO when they were in office.
The story is that the EOCO welfare department sometimes this year approached COP/Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah that they wanted to honour some officers of EOCO, past and present for their meaningful contributions to the welfare of the staff in particular and the institution as a whole. They proposed naming some halls after some past officers and also erecting a bust in honour of others.
The welfare department set up a committee to handle the details after the EOCO board gave approval. The committee worked on the details of the work and who should be honoured or not. Eventually, the ceremony took place in the EOCO gardens on 18th October 2024 after the committee announced the names of officers who had been shortlisted to be honoured. Citations were read and presented to them as expected.
Later on, the board chairman asked COP/Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah together with the dignitaries present to go and unveil the bust erected in the middle of the gardens. It was during the unveiling of the bust that COP/Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah realised that it was a bust made in her honour.
In the heat of the moment, I took a photo of the bust and posted it on my Facebook wall, and later posted a video of the moments when COP/Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah was caught on camera expressing shock and disbelief after the bust was unveiled, and she realised that it is no other person's bust than her own bust. So far, both the photo and video have gone viral as I expected it to go.
As expected, I have seen the same video and photo being posted by some influential people like Manasseh Azure Awuni and some others on their social media handles. In the case of Mannasseh, he sought to create the impression that COP/Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah is not on top of her job at EOCO if the bust was erected on her blind side. , If she were to be on top of her job, she would have known that a bust of her was being erected at EOCO.
Mannasseh's post made me understand why Ibrahim Mahama and his lawyers came after him when he launched his book Akuffo Addo, the president that Ghana never had. He doesn't do as many checks as he claims. I think it is much about his own opinions and figments in the name of investigative journalism but interestingly, Mannasseh's opinions and figments are not part of variables to measure professional competence in this country so we can only allow him to have his opinions and views without qualms.
Another person who has been screening everywhere since I posted the photo and video is my own brother Abekum Abeku Adams Ekumfi who claims that "our money" has been used to erect a bust in honour of COP/Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah and as such she must resign. Like Manasseh, he has also failed to find out how the bust was erected even though claims to be a social advocate and astute member of #FIXTHECOUNTRY# group. He has no idea about how the bust was erected and yet keeps screaming our money, our money. I think we cannot help him that much.
My sister Annie Ampofo sets the political agenda and I think it's fine. In her case, she posted everything that she copied on my wall verbatim without crediting the source. I have seen people like Ben Dotse Malor, H. Kwesi Prempeh doing their usual NPP/NDC politics with it but like I, it is still fine. In fact, some of them say that they will pull the bust down when NDC comes to power after the December 7th elections.
You see, all the reactions expressed on social media whether positive or negative is good but it will not change the fact that on 18th October, 2024 in the EOCO gardens, a bust of COP/Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah was unveiled after the personnel of EOCO made their own voluntary contributions to erect it for what she has done for them. It will not change the fact that EOCO gardens has been named as Obatanpa Tiwaa after COP/Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah.
Since Mannasseh's opinion and views are not the measuring standards for professional competences in Ghana, life at EOCO is all about COP/Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah and how the staff of EOCO are hailing her. The day that Mannasseh's opinion and views become the standard for measuring professional competence in Ghana, we will pull the bust down but until then, it's all about COP/Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah at EOCO.
