The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the release of the provisional results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates in Ghana. Performance Statistics
A total of 460,611 candidates from 1,003 schools participated in the exams, comprising 212,954 males and 247,657 females. This marks a 2.66% increase compared to the 2023 entry figure of 448,674. Out of this, 4,609 candidates (1%) were absent from the examination.
In the core subjects, performance highlights include:
English Language: 69.52% of candidates scored A1-C6.
Mathematics (Core): 66.86% attained A1-C6.
Integrated Science: 58.77% achieved A1-C6.
Social Studies: 71.53% scored A1-C6.
The performance trends over the past four years show a consistent improvement in Mathematics, while the other core subjects, including English Language, Integrated Science, and Social Studies, experienced fluctuations.
Examination Irregularities
WAEC addressed irregularities detected during the exams, including the cancellation of results for 4,108 candidates for bringing unauthorized materials into examination halls. Additionally:
Entire results of 483 candidates were canceled for possessing mobile phones.
Subject results for 781 candidates and entire results for 209 candidates have been withheld pending further investigations.
The Council reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the examination process.
