Global InfoAnalytics, a research organisation located in Accra, released its most recent opinion survey on Monday, indicating that former president and main opposition leader John Dramani Mahama (NDC) is expected to win the December presidential election.
Mahama remains ahead of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (NPP), the candidate of the ruling party and incumbent vice president; Alan Kwaddwo Kyerematen, the leader of the Movement for Change; and Nana Kwame Bediako, the leader of the New Force.
Mahama received 52% of the vote, while Dr. Bawumia received 41.3%. Support for the other contenders is still less than 5%. Dr. Bawumia has 33.8% support in the swing areas of Central, Western, and Greater Accra, compared to 59.4% for Mahama. According to the poll, just 95% of NPP voters plan to support Dr. Bawumia, whilst 98% of NDC voters want to support Mahama. This could suggest that there is division within the ruling party.
The study found that respondents are most concerned about the economy, employment, and education. More over half (51%) of respondents report that their economic position has deteriorated since last year. Both Mahama and Dr. Bawumia have announced initiatives to develop the economy and enhance citizens' livelihoods. However, more respondents (52.5%) believe Mahama is more capable, experienced, and qualified to deal with the current economic situation than Dr. Bawumia (41.7%). The poll was held between November 4 and 8, 2024, with a margin of error of 1.9%.
