Following an effort to overthrow Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III, the acting president of the Kwahu Traditional Area, a violent altercation broke out in Kwahu Abetifi, and six people are presently undergoing medical treatment, according to Ghanaweb. When Obaapanyin Yaa Asantewaa, posing as the chief's wife, showed up in the town with a gang of armed men, the war broke out. The group escorted Yaa Asantewaa to the Abetifi Palace, where they arrested the acting chief after originally being mistaken for National Security agents.

After that, Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III was forcibly relocated to a nearby older palace by Yaa Asantewaa and her group, where they allegedly carried out customary ceremonies meant to remove him from office. As part of the destoolment procedure, a sheep was reportedly killed as part of the ceremonial. Tensions in the neighborhood erupted as news of the planned removal spread, and young people from the area, some brandishing machetes, gathered to demonstrate.

A conflict swiftly broke out, but local officers, supported by military soldiers, stepped in to maintain order and stop additional violence. Shortly thereafter, traditional leaders in Abetifi conducted their own ceremonies, reinstating Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III to the main Abetifi Palace and reaffirming his status as the lawful chief.

Yaa Asantewaa and the armed men who accompanied her were taken into custody by the police after they opened an investigation into the disturbance. To safeguard them and prevent more altercations, the group was placed under protection and led to the police station. The circumstances surrounding the attempted destoolment are still being looked into by authorities.
