Abena Osei-Asare, Member of Parliament for Atiwa East and Minister of State in the Finance Ministry, has challenged President-elect John Mahama's formation of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee, calling it illegal and unconstitutional.

During a thank-you tour of her Eastern Region district, Osei-Asare questioned the need for the five-member committee led by North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. She stressed that current state agencies are already mandated to handle corruption-related concerns, thus the creation of a duplicate committee is superfluous. She also raised concern about the committee's recommendations' enforcement, citing a lack of legal backing.

Osei-Asare encouraged the next government to avoid taking hasty steps that are not anchored in constitutional foundations. Reflecting on the 2024 election results, she acknowledged the electorate's decision to vote against the New Patriotic Party (NPP), but voiced hope in the party's potential to rebuild and emerge stronger in the future.

The ORAL Committee has been the subject of debate, with some opposition members advocating its formation. Former Obuasi East NPP MP Edward Ennin has declared his willingness to disclose evidence of looted assets, while former NPP General Secretary Nana Obiri Boahen has applauded the initiative.

Abena Osei-Asare, a banker and chartered accountant, has been a Member of Parliament since January 7, 2013, representing the Atiwa East community.
