Edward Ennin, a former MP for Obuasi East, has blamed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's incompetent leadership for the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) historic electoral loss.
According to Mr. Ennin, the President's divisive policies and disregard for party officials' recommendations were key contributors to the party's demise.
He bemoaned Akufo-Addo's lack of attention to senior officials' concerns and what he saw as the haughtiness of some party members.
He pointed out that the President persisted in making controversial choices that alienated the party's core despite strong opposition.
The former lawmaker also attacked Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia's flagbearer leadership, saying his campaign tactics confused party members.
Mr. Ennin cast doubt on Dr. Bawumia's qualifications, claiming that his ascent within the party exacerbated tribal tensions at the grassroots level.
"I now see that Akufo-Addo did not aid the party at all with some, if not most, of his acts. We should hold him accountable for this loss. People were perplexed by the levies and the flagbearer's campaign against your own programs. I was perplexed, too. The NPP made a mistake by appointing Bawumia as its flagbearer. He didn't have a party card when he joined the party in 2018.
Other party leaders were not spared by Mr. Ennin, who accused them of not standing up to the President.
He criticized the National Chairman and the Chairman of the Council of Elders for losing their impartiality, saying that most executives merely carried out orders without defending or defending the party.
Mr. Ennin advocated for a comprehensive reorganization of the party's leadership structure, pointing out that only Justin Frimpong Kodua, the general secretary, had demonstrated efficacy in recent years.
In order to assist in rebuilding the party, he emphasized the importance of presenting a united face and urged the return of estranged members such as Alan Kyerematen, Kwabena Agyapong, Hopeson Adorye, and others.
The former congressman also cautioned the NPP to focus on re-engaging the grassroots and punish officials who are acting inappropriately.
According to him, no one who lost this year's polls should be permitted to run in any internal elections.
