In a show of political maturity and unity, H.E. Alan Kyerematen, Leader and Presidential Candidate of the Afrafranto Alliance in the recently concluded presidential election, led the Alliance's leadership to pay a courtesy call on President-Elect H.E. John Dramani Mahama today, December 20, 2024, at his office.

Following Alan Kyerematen's earlier celebratory press statement, the purpose of this visit was to introduce the whole ARC in person to Mr. Mahama in order to congratulate him on his election and promote a collaborative approach to national development.

The interaction demonstrated mutual respect and a shared commitment to Ghana's success.

In his speech, Alan Kyerematen emphasised the Afrafranto Alliance's two governance priorities. He initially addressed a government of national unity, which aimed to decrease excessive partisanship, end the habit of abandoned government initiatives, and exclude talented individuals.

Mr. Kyerematen's second plank was the need to transition from IMF assistance to sustainable development based on the Great Transformation Plan (GTP).

Essentially, Hon Kyerematen condemned partisanship and recommended President-Elect Mahama to focus on macroeconomic stabilisation and invest in the real sector, particularly industrialisation, agriculture, and tourism, in order to create jobs. He also advocated for a strong struggle against corruption and GALAMSEY.

In response, H.E. John Mahama lauded Alan Kyerematen, describing him as a political heavyweight with a progressive approach to national affairs. The President-Elect expressed regret for the ruling NPP's internal politics, which culminated in Alan's resignation, but extended his best wishes to the party.

Furthermore, he emphasised that the NDC shares the same ambitions as the GTP and recognised its revolutionary potential. Mr. Mahama openly recognised that any ideas derived from the GTP will be attributed to Alan.

On the serious issue of galamsey, Mr. Mahama acknowledged the existence of strong norms and regulations but emphasised the limitations of execution. He emphasised that political meddling has aggravated the issue, making it more difficult to remedy. Given galamsey's destructive environmental and economic consequences, both leaders agreed that sincere and sustained efforts to stop it were urgently needed.

The conference was a rare example of political civility and cooperation. Alan Kyerematen's concept of building unity via constructive participation was favourably received by the former president, who agreed that Ghana's progress should go beyond partisan politics. The two leaders exchanged ideas on how to address the nation's critical concerns in a peaceful manner.

Alan Kyerematen presented H.E. Mahama with a copy of his Great Transformational Plan as a symbol of collaboration and shared commitment. This move represented a willingness to share new ideas and information to advance national progress. Alan expressed hope that the GTP will spur common efforts to overcome Ghana's socioeconomic issues.

Political analysts were impressed by the two leaders' maturity during their visit. It emphasised Alan Kyerematen's goal for inclusive administration through the Afrafranto Alliance, while also setting a tone of mutual respect and cooperation that has the potential to change Ghana's political discourse.
