A group of armed men attacked passengers and set a car on fire while blocking the Bolgatanga-Tamale route close to Gbimsi in the North East Region.

According to a report by Accra-based Citi FM, the attackers, who were armed with AK-47 rifles and other advanced weapons, stopped cars in order to look for passengers from Bawku.

The recent resurgence of the Bawku chieftaincy war, which has intensified since Saturday, October 26, is connected to this escalation.

The armed men have reportedly burnt one vehicle and attacked several passengers.

According to one witness, "I went to Tamale airport this morning to drop someone off." I noticed individuals blocking the road with firearms near Gbimsi on my way back. They claimed to be searching for Kusasis while burning tires. After I told them I wasn't a Kusasi, they let me pass the screening. Although I couldn't see how it ended, I witnessed them hitting someone.

Tensions from the recent Bawku skirmishes have damaged the community of Gbimsi, which is primarily Mamprusi.

Efforts to reach the North East Regional Police Command for comment have so far been unsuccessful.
