Nlibe Otanpi and Matthew Balon claimed to be NDC officers.
According to reports, two individuals carrying firearms and ammunition were taken into custody by Ghana Immigration Service officers at the Sangba Inland Checkpoint.

In an effort to pass the checkpoint with two German-made Heckler and Koch G3 assault rifles disassembled in a box, the suspects, named as Matthew Balon and Nlibe Otanpi, were apprehended by the authorities, according to a video posted by Ed Hub on X (Twitter).

About thirty rounds of ammo were included in the box, which the men were carrying on two different motorcycles.

At first, the two had tried to use GHC20 to bribe the officers. However, when the officers insisted on looking inside the box, they made an attempt to leave the scene.

The officers were so brave that they pursued them until they were apprehended.

Balon Matthew, a self-described National Democratic Congress (NDC) local coordinator, provided two distinct accounts of how they obtained the firearms during questioning, which was caught on camera.

He first claimed that they bought the rifles from a military member for GHS 25,000 each, but he then said that they got them from his uncle in Accra.

Regarding the incident that is said to have happened on Saturday, November 30, 2024, neither the Ghana Police Service nor the Ghana Immigration Service have yet to provide an official comment.
