Social media users have not spared the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) 2024 Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, after he bowed to President John Mahama during his inauguration yesterday, January 7, 2025.
The colourful and symbolic inauguration was highlighted by a happy celebration and the attendance of leaders of state from several countries, including former President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
After taking the oath of office, President Mahama exchanged pleasantries with the dignitaries in attendance while Speaker Alban Bagbin called them out from a record.
When it was his turn, the former Vice President shook hands with President Mahama and hugged him as well. The former Vice President's subsequent bow to President Mahama, however, sparked discussion on social media.
Although it is generally traditional for Dr. Bawumia to bow when greeting people, particularly those higher up in the hierarchy, some social media users took advantage of the chance to mock him.

@eakosahy1964 – Bowing to greet is a sign of showing respect and humility. This is the case in many cultures globally. Those who are against Bawumiah doing this have missed it. For me, Bawumiah is a symbol of Humility and Respect; he bows to anyone he deems greater than him.
