Regarding the presentation of the 2025 mini-budget, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has received a severe warning from Cassiel Ato Forson, Ranking Member on the Finance Committee of Parliament. According to Forson, the Finance Minister faces legal repercussions, including possible jail time, if he does not submit the mini-budget by the period set by the constitution.
Ato Forson stressed during a press briefing that the Finance Minister would be in direct violation of the Public Financial Management Act (PFMA) if he failed to present the budget on time. In order to guarantee proper financial planning and control, this law mandates that the Finance Minister provide the budget to Parliament by a certain date. Forson cautioned that failure to comply may result in severe consequences, such as criminal prosecution.
This issue should not be treated lightly. The Finance Minister may be prosecuted if the 2025 mini-budget is not presented on time. On this, the law is unambiguous," Forson stated. Additionally, he accused the administration of causing uncertainty in the nation's financial management by failing to meet financial deadlines.
The 2025 mini-budget is regarded as an important document for describing government spending, and the economy's smooth operation depends on its early submission. As the nation gets closer to the new year, Ato Forson's warning has increased scrutiny of the government's fiscal restraint.
