On Thursday, December 26, 2024, a minivan and a passenger bus collided head-on in Rombo District, Kilimanjaro Region, killing nine persons.

The bodies were sent to Karume Hospital for preservation, according to Rombo District Commissioner Raymond Mwangwala, who verified the occurrence.

After being hurt in the collision, one survivor was sent to Huruma Hospital for more care.

According to Mwangwala, the accident happened when a minivan from Tarakea ran over a truck and struck a bus from Ngasere Company that was on its way from Dodoma to Rombo.

Six of the victims have been recognized, according to Kilimanjaro Regional Police Commander Simon Maigwa, while the identities of the other three are still unknown.

Among the victims are Mamasita Lowasa, a 27-year-old from Kamwanga, Damarisi Kanini Mwikau, a 22-year-old from Elasti, Kenya, and Monica Mumbua, a 64-year-old Kenyan.

The regional police chief also cites Tarakea Eligatanasi Kanje (30) resident Hilda Leberatus (24), and Peter Urio (38).

The minivan driver's careless attempt at an overtaking move was the primary cause of the accident, according to the police chief.
