In the event that the government is unable to pay outstanding debts owing to senior high schools, Peter Attah Gyamfi, the Eastern Regional Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), has advised parents to adequately prepare for their children's return to school.

The CHASS chairman, who is also the headmaster of Pentecost Senior High School, said on Tuesday on Koforidua-based Bryt FM: "There are two options: either you give your child enough food and money, or he or she stays home."

This warning coincides with persistent worries about the government's incapacity to cover recurring fees, food transportation expenses, and arrears for perishables.

CHASS encouraged the Ghana Education Service (GES) to delay the senior high school reopening date, which was initially set for January 3, 2025, until the government handles the debt situation in a statement released on December 31, 2024. Three previous appeals since August 2024 have not received a response, according to CHASS.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has insisted that the senior high school reopening schedule is unaltered in spite of these worries. GES reminded parents, teachers, and students of the academic calendar in a statement released on January 3, 2025. It stated that primary and junior high schools are scheduled to reopen on January 8, 2025, while senior high schools will reopen on January 3.

The statement went on to say that GES is working with the Ministry of Education to quickly address the issues brought up by CHASS. All parties involved were asked to pay attention to the reopening dates and make the required preparations.
