Ghana's Electoral Commission (EC) has promised voters that the elections scheduled for December 7 will be fair and transparent, according to Peace FM Online. In an interview with TV3, Deputy Commissioner for Corporate Services Dr. Eric Bossman Asare stated that robust mechanisms had been established to guarantee the election's legitimacy.
Dr. Asare clarified that even those in high positions are prohibited from interfering with the EC's structure. "Interference is impossible because the system is so well-structured," he stated. Additionally, he noted that party operatives will supervise operations at polling places and that ballots will be counted transparently in front of witnesses, including members of the media.
He spoke about the December 2 special voting, which enables early voting by election staff and security officers. In order to maintain openness and prevent duplicate voting, he told these voters that their names would not appear on the December 7 voter list.
The results of the special vote would be kept secret until the results of the general election are declared, Dr. Asare said in closing. These steps are intended to ensure equity and foster voter trust.
