Kwadwo Twum Boafo, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the country's growing electricity rates, which he says are discouraging prospective investors.

Speaking out on the subject, he attacked the government's handling of electricity pricing, stating that it is a serious problem for investors.

"The high electricity prices in this country are so exorbitant that they actually deter investment," Boafo remarked, adding that during his stint as Chairman of the Free Zones Authority, investors repeatedly mentioned the issue of electricity costs.

"What your meters can get into is unbelievable. "The wastefulness is absolutely shocking."

"There are people who do not even make enough money to cover their electricity bills, let alone put food on the table," Boafo told me.

He also expressed concerns about potential corruption in government affairs, implying that certain officials may profit from the high electricity rates.

He remarked, "If I sit here and say that some people in government benefit from that transaction, will I be lying? But we're told I can't say that because I don't have proof.

"He got away with $87 million. The government had seven million. "What is wrong with us?" Boafo inquired.

Boafo claimed that if the $87 million had been put in projects such as training doctors at Noguchi Memorial Institute to deal with infectious diseases, the country would have fared better.
