Ghanaians have been quite critical of the Electoral Commission of Ghana for not giving political parties that asked it the complete number of eligible voters that are registered.
Many had questioned why the Ghanaian Electoral Commission should be behaving as like they had no idea what kind of work they have been given and continuously getting off course.
The NDC, Ghana's largest opposition party, has maintained that since 1992, the Electoral Commission of Ghana has provided them with summary sheets; so, why should the current Electoral Commissioners refuse to give them what they want and continue to skirt the issue? As of right now, no one is certain of the percentage of voters the Commission would anticipate casting ballots on election day or the overall number of eligible registered voters who would cast ballots in the general election scheduled for December 7th, 2024.
Due to that political activist, Shamima Muslim has told the electoral commission of Ghana that they should not be treating voters statistics like a state secret, but makes it available to the public and praised political parties for doing voter education than the electoral commission of Ghana and NCCE.
"To be honest, over the years, political parties have performed better at educating voters than the EC and NCCE.Voter statistics shouldn't be treated as state secrets by the EC, excluded from even an RTI request. They need to actively disseminate these figures," Shamima Muslim informed the Commission online through social media posts that were trending on November 8, 2024.
