Charles Forson, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, has been proclaimed the victor of the Tema Central parliamentary seat after the Electoral Commission (EC) re-collected votes. The announcement was issued on Friday after the EC performed a comprehensive assessment to rectify anomalies discovered during the initial counting procedure.
The re-collation procedure was required by charges of irregularities made by both the NPP and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). Following a thorough review of the disputed polling station results, the EC confirmed that Forson won by a slim margin with a total of 25,487 votes, defeating his nearest rival from the NDC, who received 25,213 votes.
Speaking after the announcement, Forson thanked his constituents for their persistent support and promised to work relentlessly to keep his campaign pledges. "This triumph is not only for myself, but for the entire Tema Central community. "I will ensure that your voices are heard in Parliament," he said.
The NDC candidate has yet to officially reply to the outcome, but party sources have hinted at probable legal action. Meanwhile, the EC underlined its commitment to electoral openness and justice, urging all parties to respect the results.
This is a significant milestone for the NPP as they strengthen their position in the Tema Central constituency. Forson's triumph is likely to energise the party's grassroots as it prepares for the upcoming general election.
