Ghana's former vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has warned President-elect John Dramani Mahama about the behavior of his followers after the recent election.

In a post on his Verified Facebook Page, Dr. Bawumia said he was extremely concerned by tales of violence and lawlessness that were purportedly committed by members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following their electoral victory.

Dr. Bawumia urged Mahama to act swiftly to put an end to these incidents and maintain peace throughout Ghana in a message posted on Facebook.

The former vice president denounced what he called a surge of assaults on public offices, government facilities, and private citizens.

According to him, NDC supporters had stolen government property, besieged vote-counting stations with firearms, and forcibly proclaimed NDC candidates the winners in several places.

"People are looting and stealing government property as a result of these crazed acts of violence and lawbreaking that have expanded to public offices and government buildings. According to Dr. Bawumia, "some public offices were forced to close."

A "strange twist" to the violence following the election, he also expressed concern over threats to people's homes and possessions, including death threats.

In order to maintain peace and unity in Ghana, Dr. Bawumia advised President-elect Mahama to demonstrate leadership by managing his supporters.

"I would want to remind President Mahama that he did not take over by force; rather, he won an election. He has an obligation to assist in preserving property and lives," Dr. Bawumia stated.

If the violence persisted, he cautioned, individuals might feel compelled to protect themselves, which might exacerbate the situation.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized how strange it was to witness such behavior following an election that many believed to be honest and fair.

He called on the NDC to demonstrate their dedication to democracy and to uphold its tenets.

He stated that "we must always put the country's interests above any person's interests," and that the NDC must demonstrate its unwavering commitment to democracy.
