President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has introduced the transition team in charge of ensuring a smooth transition of power to President-elect John Dramani Mahama's administration. The Presidential (Transition) Act of 2012 (Act 845) establishes the transition process with the goal of fostering governance stability and continuity.

Official Statement on Transition
A statement released on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, by Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Presidency, emphasized the importance of the transition process in strengthening Ghana’s democratic credentials.

"The government is committed to a smooth and efficient transition to maintain stability and continuity in governance, as required by the Presidential (Transition) Act," the statement read.

Akufo-Addo’s Transition Team
The outgoing administration’s transition team comprises key officials who are integral to the government’s operations. Below is the full list of members:

Core Members:

Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare - Chief of Staff and Head of Presidential Staff under the Presidential Office Act, 1993 (Act 463).
Godfred Yeboah Dame - Attorney-General.
Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu - Minister responsible for Presidential Affairs.
Hon. Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam - Minister responsible for Finance.
Hon. Henry Quartey - Minister responsible for the Interior.
Hon. Dominic Nitiwul - Minister responsible for Defence.
Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey - Minister responsible for Foreign Affairs.

Inauguration of Transition Team
The transition team is set to be inaugurated on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. Both President Akufo-Addo and President-elect Mahama will serve as co-chairpersons of the team. However, in the absence of President Akufo-Addo, Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare will act as the co-chairperson.

Advisory Council Appointment
In line with Section 5 (1) of the Act, President Akufo-Addo has also appointed Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, a former Speaker of Parliament, to the Transitional Advisory Council. The council will be chaired by the current Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin.
