Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) member, has extended genuine greetings to President John Dramani Mahama upon his swearing-in on January 7, 2025. In a social media post, Otchere-Darko described Mahama's return to the president as a "fresh start" for Ghana. He stated that the people of the country had high hopes for the incoming administration and expressed his best wishes for the country's future development.
He wrote: "Congratulations, Ghana! New head. New set. There is a new dawn. New hopes. Excellent expectations. I wish the new leadership and Ghana every success."
Otchere-Darko underlined that the peaceful transition of power to Mahama strengthens Ghana's global reputation as an example of democracy. He encouraged Ghanaians to be proud of their country, appreciating its beauty and the great qualities that others admire.
Ghana's President, John Dramani Mahama, was officially sworn in at a ceremony in Accra's Black Star Square. This milestone came after his spectacular victory in the December 2024 general elections, where he received a decisive mandate from the electorate.
A large number of international luminaries attended the inauguration ceremony, including 21 heads of state, ambassadors, and representatives from major worldwide organizations. Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the Vice President-elect, took the oath of office, making her the country's first female Vice President.
Mahama's return is historic, since he becomes Ghana's first non-consecutive president under the Fourth Republic. He won by a landslide in the 2024 elections, with his closest challenger, Dr. Mamudu Bawumia, the outgoing Vice President and NPP flagbearer, collecting 41.61% of the vote.
Mahama previously served as president from July 24, 2012, until January 7, 2017, following the death of President John Atta Mills. He had also served as Vice President from 2009 till 2012.
