Making history, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is Ghana's first female vice president. Her achievement demonstrates her dedication to leadership, education, and public service.

Her appointment establishes her as a trailblazer for women in senior positions and signifies a significant turning point in Ghanaian politics.

As the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, Ghana's highest civilian honor, became the country's first female public university head.

At UCC, she served in a number of leadership roles, including Academic Director for the School for International Training, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Head of the English Department, and Professor of Literature.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang became Minister of Education under John Mahama's administration and brought about reforms to improve education's quality and accessibility. She garnered electoral clout as running mate of John Dramani Mahama in 2020, and after her boss defeated Dr. Bawumia handily in the 2024 elections, she was awarded the first-ever vice presidential seat.

She served as Ghana's representative to UNESCO's Executive Board and spoke at the United Nations Headquarters in 2007 during the bicentennial of slavery abolition.
